San Marino boy’s varsity water polo hosted last year’s division 3 semifinalist, Montebello High School, on Wednesday, September 7th

San Marino drew first blood going up 2-0 with both goals by Alessio Brunochelli in the first 2 minutes. Montebello battled back 4-3, but as the first quarter was coming to an end, Ethan Lai put in a back breaker of a goal to make it 5-3 with 8 seconds left in the 1st quarter.

San Marino defense clamped down holding Montebello to 1 goal in the 2nd while scoring 3 of their own going into half-time in control, 8-4.

San Marino scored 5 goals in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead while limiting Montebello to 3 goals. While Montebello focused their defense on senior, Alessio Brunochelli, the rest of the team stepped up offensively with Jacob Yee scoring twice and Castleman and Lai adding 1 goal a piece each. The third quarter concluded with San Marino on top 13-7.

Early in the 4th quarter, Alessio Brunochelli scored another goal to push the lead to 14-7. Coach Zirovich subbed in the bench to close out the game with a final scored of 16-10.
