Monrovia High School
San Marino High School
On January 25th, San Marino took on the Wildcats of Monrovia in the first of three back to back to back home games. The Titans and Wildcats were both 2-2 in league and fighting to stay in the hunt. Despite falling behind early in the game, 7-0, San Marino dug into their defense and clawed themselves back into their game. By half, San Marino had found their energy on the floor and took to the locker room down 21-25, but feeling optimistic that they didn’t play a clean half but were still in striking range.
The second half had a totally different feel. With their backs seemingly against the wall and knowing that this game had so much impact in league, San Marino came out and played with greater toughness and intention and won the quarter 13-12, to inch a little closer 37-34 by the end of 3 quarters. The Titans received a much needed gritty and inspiring performance by Jimmy Fuerst, who was called to come in and give a steady and calm hand while Jadyn Torres, Michael Shahan, Chuma Azinge and Andrew Quach willed the team forward keeping the pressure on the Wildcats. San Marino finally broke through winning the 4th quarter 21-11 and ultimately won the game 54-48.
San Marino faces off once again against (5-0) La Canada this Friday, 1/27 at (3-2) San Marino at 7:00 PM.
